Scottish Police Federation

Scottish Police Federation

The Scottish Police Federation was established by an Act of Parliament and is the representative organisation of all officers in the ranks of Constable, Sergeant and Inspector (including Chief Inspectors), 98 % of all officers. As our Gaelic motto 'Sochair agus Comasachd' proclaims, the Federation's statutory remit is to consider all matters affecting the 'Welfare and Efficiency' of its Members and we are responsible for the full range of activities normally undertaking in other work forces by Trade Unions. Whilst Membership of the Scottish Police Federation is a statutory requirement for officers in the Federated ranks, officers can elect not to subscribe to the Federation's Voluntary Fund and it is therefore a source of considerable pride to the Branch that all its 710 Members recognise the Federation's effort on their behalf and elect to be Subscribing Members. The Northern Branch covers Northern Constabulary officers who are responsible for policing the following local authority area; Highland Council, Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council), Orkney Islands Council and Shetland Islands Council, a Force area one six of the United Kingdom's landmass with Highland alone the size of Belgium.
