About Saskatchewan Transportation Company The Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC) is a Crown Corporation of the province of Saskatchewan. It was established by Government Order in Council in 1946. Its operations are governed by its Board of Directors, under the authority of The Crown Corporations Act, 1993. STC is a provincial coach company which provides safe, affordable and accessible bus passenger and freight service to Saskatchewan communities. It provides transportation of people and goods which is safe, reliable and affordable. It protects the investment made by the people of Saskatchewan by providing the level of service required in the province's rural communities. While STC can, and will, compete effectively where it operates in a competitive environment, it will still deliver the same level of competitive service in those areas where it operates unopposed. While most people prefer to use private automobiles to travel, the public of Saskatchewan solidly supports the availability of public transportation for those who choose to use it or for those who may not have other options. In 2005 STC carried 267385 passengers over 3.2 million miles, to and from 275 communities in the province. We also carried approximately two million pieces of freight, mostly to rural communities, over the course of the year. For those who do use our services, it appears that we are providing them with what they need. Year after year our passenger surveys indicate positive satisfaction levels in the high 70 percent to low 80 percent range. Buses are the most fuel efficient form of transportation. With the high cost of fuels and the need for the Province to do its part in achieving Canada's commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the future for bus transportation in Saskatchewan should be very positive.
