Community Storehouse
Community Storehouse solicits, warehouses, and distributes both perishable and nonperishable groceries to local families living below the poverty line. Our food programs focus on our community's children, the working poor, disabled, elderly, and otherwise disadvantaged people living in Martinsville and Henry County, Virginia. Every week our volunteers collect thousands of pounds of produce, dairy, meat, bakery goods, and shelf-stable items from local grocers, community businesses, churches, and civic groups. Thousands of pounds of high-quality, nutritious food that would otherwise be discarded is rescued - or generously donated - and delivered to where it's needed most. Community Storehouse has a 16,000 square-foot thrift store (the organization's largest fundraiser) which doubles as a training site for federal and state programs, from individuals currently on welfare being rehabilitated into the workforce, to seniors needing recent job references and skills training. Help us secure our largest matching funds opportunity for our most important program, in its most challenging year yet, the Food for Kids: School Backpack Program.
