St. Paul American School

Although Saint Paul American School believes in traditional learning and old-fashioned values of honesty and disciple, we offer a real 21st century education and we embrace the technological changes of the world around us. We see technology as something, which can greatly broaden the scope of our students' minds and as an essential part of the learning process. With that in mind, we have made large investments in technology by installing Wi-Fi in our buildings, having a computer with a projector in classrooms. We also provide Smart Boards for our elementary school and printers throughout the school and dormitory. All students in grades 6 and above are given a Kindle to access e-books. Students in advanced math classes use a Texas Instruments graphing calculator for solving complex problems. With the freedom to access the Internet, students have a responsibility to use the technology in a responsible manner, as we employ filtering software and have strong policies to ensure the usage is of useful academic nature. Our teachers access an online service called Turnitin to check that students have created their own content and prevent plagiarism of online sources. We have full-time staff dedicated to ensuring our network and devices are functioning well. Some real-world examples of activities students use the school's technology network to do include: • Using Photoshop and other video imaging software to make the school yearbook • Using video editing software to make the school's video yearbook • Using PowerPoint to make a presentation in class • Using Adobe InDesign to create the school newsletter • Using Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets and analyze statistical and graphical data • Using Internet online libraries and Microsoft Word to write a research report on any topic • Using Smart Boards to interact with content • Using email to contact a teacher with a question about a class or submit a document • Using Internet to watch one of the millions of educational videos available online or research virtually any topic.
