Sunbird Sacco

Sunbird Sacco was registered under the Co-operative Society's Act of Malawi in 1992 with membership of 400 employees of Malawi Hotels Limited (TDIC) Tourism Development & Investment Company of Malawi. The management of then (TDIC) or Malawi Hotels supported SACCO to make members of staff self reliant financially. Sunbird SACCO is an affiliate of Malawi Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (MUSCCO). MUSCCO is an apex body of savings and credit cooperatives in Malawi and is mandated to promote and develop savings and credit cooperatives as well as inspecting and monitoring their performance. Its main function is to act as a financial intermediary for all its members. Sunbird SACCO is regulated by the Reserve Bank of Malawi. Membership of the SACCO is drawn from all the seven hotels under Sunbird Tourism Limited, namely Sunbird Mount Soche, Ku Chawe, Nkopola Lodge, Capital, Lilongwe, Livingstonia Beach and Mzuzu Hotels. It also has members from Catering Solutions Limited, Capital Catering Services and Lingadzi Inn. These hotels are located in both rural and urban areas. As part of our expansion programme Sunbird SACCO has opened its bond to enable other organisations to benefit from its services. Other organisations namely Old Mutual, Mlambe Hospital, Malawi Blood Transfusion Service, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Trust Auctioneers & Estate Agents and Gestetner Limited have joined the SACCO as well.
