School of Visual Arts
School of Visual Arts is a for-profit art and design college located in Manhattan, New York. The college is a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design, a consortium of 36 leading art schools in the United States. School of Visual Arts was founded in 1947 as the Cartoonists and Illustrators School by Silas H. Rhodes and (Tarzan) Burne Hogarth and was renamed School of Visual Arts in 1956. In 1967 SVA found a permanent address and opened a new photography studio. Then later in 1969, the Visual Arts Museum opened.
