Synesis Law focuses on enhancing business strategy - not just providing legal services with respect to existing legal problems. A primary area of this mission is safeguarding the stability of a company's infrastructure. What does this mean? It can take many forms from: a) advising directors and officers regarding their legal risks to b) drafting contracts which reflect assumption of known risks to c) creating procedures that cross-check operations to reduce created risks. Early notice of a situation before a "perfect storm" exists is key. A stable infrastructure can enhance timely detection. Mishaps inevitably occur but when they do - the company "fails safe" when warned in advance. With this mission in mind, Synesis Law named Nicole Marcey as Managing Counsel. Nicole has practiced at multinational law firms in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles providing legal counsel to Fortune 100 companies. Recognizing that shaping business strategy was both a strength and a passion, she went in-house at two multi-billion dollar conglomerates, obtained her MBA to round out her skill set and accepted a General Counsel position with a privately-held technology company. Nicole's in-house practice at global conglomerates was a multi-faceted undertaking. Each conglomerate was made up of 20-50 companies representing such industries as aerospace, engineering, biomedical devices, technology, financial services and consumer products. Each had a different business model, economic pressures and marketing strategies. Many were successful product based enterprises seeking to move to the next level. The decentralized management culture of the conglomerates fostered such growth. Such diverse in-house experience, acquired over more than a decade, taught Nicole to be a true "business partner," providing the legal perspective in operations and general management discussions without chilling creativity and innovation. She was able to synthesize complex information and then deliver and gain "C suite" and Board level acceptance for new and innovative concepts and recommendations. In learning what it truly meant to add value to the decision-making process in a variety of industries, cultural climates and management styles, Nicole embodies the practice at Synesis Law.
