Szerelmey

Szerelmey

In 1978, Szerelmey was again the company chosen to undertake a feasibility study on the cleaning of the building. This time, a sample was carried out on the terrace overlooking the River Thames and, finally 120 years after the Company's initial involvement, the entire Thames facade received the Szerelmey treatment. The enormous industrial expansion of the 19th Century and heavily polluted city atmospheres resulted in the surface contamination of many fine buildings. Yet it was not until the early 20hth century that the detrimental effects of these contaminants were recognised. A massive cleaning and restoration initiative followed which allowed Szerelmey to establish its reputation for excellence amongst consultants and contractors across the whole of the construction industry. The quality and skill of the Company's workmanship has led to the Company being awarded contracts for the cleaning, restoration and refurbishment of many national monuments and historical buildings. The experience gained whilst working on such historic stone and terracotta buildings has also developed the Company's reputation as a new-build stonework contractor. As a result, a significant proportion of Szerelmey's turnover is now derived from this type of work. Whilst undertaking many high profile, larger projects in the London area, Szerelmey's reputation and expertise continue to grow on smaller external cladding and flooring projects. Much has been achieved since Szerelmey's formation and new techniques for cleaning and restoring buildings are under constant review by the Company.
