Technogenia

Technogenia is a specialist manufacturer of highly resistant anti-wear coatings based on tungsten carbide. Founded in Paris in 1979 by Guy Maybon, a ceramics engineer who previously worked at the French Atomic Energy Commission, Technogenia produces an extremely hard and resistant tungsten carbide called Sphérotène®, which is a trademark of Technogenia. This product takes the form of spherical particles with a grain size ranging from 40 to 2,000 microns. Technogenia applies and deposits the Sphérotène® using different processes of varying complexity. These include applying the product via a simple welding process using a flexible rope in the form of a nickel bead coated in a blend of tungsten carbide particles. Technogenia has also developed a unique laser cladding technology. The Lasercarb® process uses the heat from the laser to melt tungsten carbide applied in powder form. This results in excellent adhesion and an exceptionally hard deposit. Lasercarb® is a trademark of Technogenia. Technogenia's products have become well-regarded across several different industry sectors as they offer substantial cost savings, and there are no reliable alternatives currently available. The drilling sector accounts for nearly two thirds of Technogenia's sales revenue, with customers including Schlumberger, Halliburton and Baker Hughes. Technogenia also works with companies in the tunnelling, dredging, agriculture and food processing sectors, as well as power stations, foundries, ceramics producers, brickmakers, and tile factories. Technogenia has consolidated sales of €28 million, and around 90 staff. The company has a presence in more than 30 countries. It has opened Lasercarb® customer service centers in the US, Canada and the UK as well as France, while there are licensees using Technogenia's Lasercarb® cladding technology in Singapore, Norway and France.
