The News-Messenger

The News-Messenger, circulation 14,059, is the only daily newspaper headquartered in Sandusky County. Community Outlook, its TMC product with a circulation of 10,039, is distributed every Saturday/Monday to all non-subscribers in the county. The newspaper traces its roots to 1856, when the Fremont Messenger was launched, and 1887, founding date of The Fremont News. F.J. Daubel bought the Messenger at bankruptcy sale in 1925 and bought the News in 1938, combining both daily newspapers. The Port Clinton News Herald was acquired in 1969 and both newspapers were run as part of a family business until 1975, when they were sold to Gannett. James F. Daubel is publisher of both papers today. Key area colleges include Terra Community College, Bowling Green State University, University of Toledo, Heidelberg College and Tiffin University.
