The Spotted Dog

The Spotted Dog, in the heart of the thriving Hertfordshire village of Flamstead, has been a public house since the c1800, now in 2019 this characterful historic building has been carefully renovated to be a warmly inviting space in which to relax and linger. Your hosts Claire and Tom warmly invite you to enjoy great food, fine ales and wines along with quality coffee from the morning café, Coffeedog. Your friendly dogs and welly boots are welcome in the bar area where a warming fire will be roaring in the winter months. Relax on our unique reclaimed furniture from the 50s and 60s and be inspired by our selection of coffee table books, magazines, newspapers and even board games. Our pub has a restaurant area to the rear with up to 30 covers, the bar area with 10-12 covers, 2 sofas by the fire and bar stalls. Then there is the snug area seating about 12 on comfy sofas with cushions, this is particularly popular with families with children playing games from our games box and parents relaxing (in a fashion). We welcome events from parties to christenings and even weddings, please talk us and we will tailor your event for your requirements. 70 guests are very comfortable in the whole pub for parties with a buffet, we can seat up to 40 throughout the pub for a more formal meal. We are currently offering daytime eating with meals at lunchtimes and a very popular roast on a Sunday. All our ingredients are provided by local suppliers and where possible we use British food (our free range eggs come from half a mile away). Our entire menu is cooked fresh to order; we are about quality food leaving fast food to others. We have an extensive wine list and 3 quality real ales on the bar along with draught lagers and ciders. Guinness is on draught and we have more specialist bottled lagers and ciders in the fridge. Our Prosecco is popular by the glass and we have both white and rose. We also have a comprehensive gin menu, including unusual gins from around the world, covering all tastes from savoury, floral, citrus and good old London dry. Increasingly low and non-alcohol beverages are becoming popular; we stock the Frobishers range which only contain natural sugars from the fruit, 2 non-alcohol lagers, and Seedlip an alternative to gin in a tonic. Also our coffee machine is on all the time for your favourite latte, cappuccino or flat white. A warm welcome is always extended, so please come and enjoy The Spotted Dog experience.
