The Town Hall

As one of the oldest venues in the city, The Town Hall is committed to instilling cultural awareness in children at a young age. We have always strived to develop programs geared for both children and families that inspire a love for the performing arts. Over the past thirty years more than two million children have been to a Town Hall show, and for many this was their first experience of live performance. Through collaborations with renowned artists and extensive outreach, we are able to present engaging, interactive performances to students and their teachers. Each season we invite thousands of public school children to free programs including modified, kid-friendly versions of our World Music and Dance Festival as well as our Annual Black History Month Celebration. In keeping with our commitment to family programming, we offer one classic silent film a year, with life musical accompaniment, giving children the opportunity to experience the first true multi-media event. In past series, jazz musician Barry Harris, keeper of the be-bop flame, taught young children about the building blocks of music, and famed Beat generation composer David Amram entertained high school kids with a blend of music and poetry. Through our programming we are able to connect with thousands of children each year offering opportunities stemming from the simple exposure to the arts as well as using art as a teaching tool. Don't let your child grow apart from art!
