The Wallich

We have been providing accommodation and support services for homeless people since 1978, starting with a 20-bed hostel in Cardiff and expanding to a multi-project agency working in 16 Local Authorities in Wales. We specialise in providing services for people with multiple, complex needs; people who, because of their high support needs, are often excluded from other services and have difficulty in accessing accommodation. The range of services The Wallich offers is as diverse as the client group we work with and the underlying aim is to ensure all people have access to support appropriate to their needs. Long term solutions, rather than short term fixes, are developed in partnership with the client. Over 30 years' experience of working with vulnerable people have resulted in working practices which have evolved into a unique and effective way of working with clients. Our principles of inclusion mean that we don't impose unnecessary rules and we always look for ways to say yes to a client, even to those whose chaotic lifestyles have meant they've been turned away by other agencies. To this end we endeavour to remove barriers which might stand in the way of a client being able to receive our services. In practice this means that, for example, we have projects where the consumption of drugs or alcohol on the premises is permitted within the boundaries of the law and clients are welcome to bring pets into their accommodation. We believe everyone deserves the right to a home, but more than that, that everyone deserves the right to feel safe, to feel valued and to feel positive about their future.
