Thompsons of Prudhoe

We have an extensive modern fleet of plant & equipment of all sizes, including dozers, excavators, dump trucks, traxcavators, rollers, screens, dust suppression equipment, and when utilising the 90+ strong HGV tipper fleet makes us one of the most complete earthworks and site preparation teams in the country. Our GPS controlled dozers can work to computer models producing exact levels to fine tolerances. In any year we will be handling around three quarters of a million cubic metres of material. We have access to a variety of restoration projects across the region, including projects within the Group, some requiring materials, others generating surplus. We can therefore satisfy any client that we can accommodate their earthmoving needs and can supply any tonnage or type of aggregate. Thompsons of Prudhoe have undertaken all types and sizes of earthworks and enabling projects including the construction of new roads, bridges, railway lines, reservoirs, water treatment & sewerage facilities, industrial estates, warehouses & factories, housing developments, shopping centres, leisure centres, public amenity land, football pitches, golf courses, test tracks, office blocks, car parks - above and underground, and many others. One of our most high-profile reclamation projects was the reclamation, preparation and surcharging the derelict land in Gateshead as part of the construction of the Metro Centre - Europe's largest shopping centre in the mid 1980s. We are currently undertaking a 5 year reclamation project at a former waste water treatment facility generating half a million tonnes of quality recycled aggregate. Our teams have extensive experience of working within close proximity to live services, equipment and transport links such as railway lines and motorways. Delivery of our commitment to excellence in safety, environmental and technical performance is demonstrated by our awards, externally validated certifications, accreditations and our membership of the most appropriate trade associations for our business, ensuring we are always up to speed with best practice and current legislation. It has long been the policy of Thompsons of Prudhoe Ltd to recycle as much of the material that arises from our operations as is reasonably possible. We have committed to reducing the level of waste being sent to landfill, and embedded this target into the company's policies and procedures. his is not only cheaper, but also helps clients demonstrate and deliver a sustainable approach to their project delivery, reducing their overall environmental impact and carbon footprint. Our commitment to this is established through our ISO 14001 accreditation and our Company Policies. There are two options for the recycling of excavated material - on site and off site. This will be determined by factors such as space available, client requirements, planning restrictions, environmental factors, programme and proximity to off-site facility. Whether crushed and screened on site by our extensive plant fleet, or removed to an off-site recycling facility, all brick, concrete and mixed soils / brick / concrete material will be crushed, screened and processed into recycled materials meeting specification as required by a client, such as Type 1 sub-base or 6F2 which will be either reused on the project or on our other construction projects in the area. The team at Thompsons are long standing members of the Environmental Services Association (ESA), the National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC), and the Asbestos Removal Contractors' Association (ARCA). Individual staff members are members of the Institute of Demolition Engineers (IDE) and the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management (CIWM). Through these organisations, we receive regular training on the latest industry developments to ensure that all our customers receive the highest possible levels of expertise on every aspect of their projects. Alongside this, Thompsons continually invest in the most up to date equipment to ensure that all our projects are delivered in a professional manner, on time and within budget, whilst also maintaining our excellent safety record. New machines are now supplied with GPS tracking and "intelligent control" technology to enhance operator skills to help complete projects with an even greater level of detail and in less time.
