Tata Institute of Fundamental Research
The National Centre for Radio Astrophysics of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (NCRA-TIFR) in Pune, India is the nodal institute for overseeing SKA related activities within India. India has significant experience and expertise in radio astronomy. NCRA operates the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT), an array of thirty fully steerable 45m parabolic dishes that has been accorded the status of a "SKA Pathfinder" by the SKA Organisation for the important technical and scientific developments being carried that provide valuable inputs to the teams designing the SKA. The upgraded GMRT is beginning to produce data which can be used as a preview to the first phase of SKA.
