Founded in 1975 as tabloid news weekly, Times of Oman became a broad-sheet daily in 1990. The first paper was published on February 23, 1975. The target group was expatriates in Oman and the paper also aimed at promoting Oman abroad. As many of the readers are from the Indian subcontinent, the paper dedicated a proportional part of its pages to news about that region.
