Trewithen Dairy
Trewithen Dairy is celebrating a major national achievement after beating a major national brand to take Gold in The Grocer New Product Awards. The producer's Spreadable butter, which was launched in January this year, won the category for Butters and Spreads, beating Clover to the top spot. The Lostwithiel-based dairy, which also produces a range of delicious milk, butter, yoghurts and Cornish clotted cream, was given the top national accolade by comedian Ian Moore at the Marriott, Grosvenor Square in London. The awards celebrate the cream of the crop and reward outstanding innovation across the industry, specially recognizing products with 'star quality'. Described as being 'creamy' and 'tasty' the dairy's Cornish spreadable butter impressed with its high quality and flavour, as well as its attractive packaging. Trewithen joined other winning brands like Taylors of Harrogate, Ella's Kitchen and Cadbury's as a Gold winner. The product was taste-tested by 50 consumers and then thoroughly assessed by an expert panel of judges who evaluated it against a range of criteria, including taste, texture, appearance, packaging, value for money and clarity of labelling. Commercial Director Francis Clarke said: "The team here at Trewithen Dairy is delighted at having been awarded The Grocer's New Product Award 2014 for our Spreadable butter. We regularly receive lots of lovely feedback from our customers so to have this new product recognised by a national trade publication as being the best new product in its category is, for us, the icing on the cake. The judging criteria for these awards are rigorous and we're so proud to have beaten off some stiff competition from a nationally available brand. We're also immensely proud of the fact that the process of getting our Spreadable butter to market has been a truly Cornish collaboration between our Dairy, Duchy College's Food Innovation Centre, where we developed the product initially and our Truro based design Agency, Absolute Design, who designed the packaging." Francis continues, "Over the last few years the dairy has been on a real journey, encompassing strategic growth and exciting new product development and through it all we have always strived to maintain our commitment to quality and staying true to our Cornish roots." "I am thrilled that the hard work of all our dedicated staff, farmers and suppliers has been recognised via this national product award. Without them we wouldn't be where we are today and we also credit much of our success to the co-operative relationships we have built with countless other businesses who we trade with and supply. I believe that Cornwall can set a great example when it comes to partnership working, and Trewithen is proud to be helping make a name for the Cornish food and drink industry."
