Unicorn was founded by Frank Horan and Nicola Divers, who've expanded the business in just a few short years, drawing on their wealth of experience in the sector. Frank's background originally was in the animal feed market, but his move to ingredient traders Kimpton Brothers in the late 1980s brought him into the wider world of food trading. He subsequently worked for Fuerst Day Lawson and has now spent 25 years specialising in seeds, pulses and other ingredients - combining his business acumen with the scientific knowledge that comes from his degree in physiology, biochemistry and nutrition. "Both customers and suppliers know they can trust us," says Frank. "We're friendly, we focus quietly on the job and we're always open to new innovations. That's why Unicorn has established so many positive partnerships in recent years." Nicola also worked at Kimpton Brothers, and developed her impressive knowledge of the global market while at food and ingredient traders H P Schmid Inc and Fuerst Day Lawson. "We're passionate about the work that we do and really enjoy it," she reveals. "It's great to get out on the ground and see the whole lifecycle of the product - from the producer right through to the end customer." The partners have brought in other like-minded people to help deliver a seamless service. There are now 12 people working at their office in Epsom, UK and two more permanently based in China. "If any issues arise," says Nicola, "we have a team of people who can address them quickly and efficiently. Very often, they'll anticipate them too - proactively supporting our customers."
