United Way of Greater Philadelphia

As part of its commitment to addressing key community issues, United Way is developing strategies to positively impact the financial stability of our citizens. The goal is to help move working people towards greater economic self-sufficiency and away from the safety net services that are used during crisis situations. One of the first initiatives toward this goal is United Way Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). Sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Sun National Bank, VITA provides free income tax preparation assistance to individuals and families with a household income of less than $51,000 a year. In addition to providing free tax preparation, VITA works to ensure everyone in the community receives all of the tax credits and deductions for which they are eligible. Many in our community don't have access to affordable tax preparation services or are unaware of programs like Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) that could put thousands of dollars back in their hands and into our local economy. VITA helps taxpayers obtain eligible tax credits and deductions, especially EITC, Child Tax Credit, Education Tax Credits and Child Care tax deductions. Anyone who files a basic tax return can have taxes prepared at one of the VITA sites.
