United Way of the Plains
The Flying Challenge is a mentoring program coordinated by United Way of the Plains and sponsored by the Airbus Corporate Foundation. The program is designed to inspire students who are at risk of not graduating from high school or pursuing college, to challenge themselves--to pursue degrees and potentially a career in the aviation industry. The program matched Airbus engineers and Wichita State University engineering students with students at Brooks Middle School. Students saw how professionals apply math and science every day through weekly mentoring visits, field trips and hands-on experiences. The program began Sept. 24, 2012, and concludes at this May 9th event.
