Uplawmoor

We mainly operate in East Renfrewshire & East Ayrshire covering Barrhead, Dunlop, Lugton, Neilston, Shillford, Stewarton & Uplawmoor. We can also called to other areas if required such as Beith, Lochwinnoch, Johnstone, Linwood, Paisley, Thornliebank, Newton Mearns and Irvine. We were established in July 2013 and we have recruited more than 25 volunteers from the local area. The First Responder Group went live on 4th January 2014 and we have now responded to more than 700 emergency call outs in just over 2 years. In October 2015, Neilston and Uplawmoor First Responders won the Scottish Ambulance Vision 20/20 Award Taking Care to the Patient. It was fantastic to receive this recognition and we proudly display our winning trophy at our base station. We are a self funding volunteer group in partnership with the Scottish Ambulance Service and we rely on the generosity of the local community and local business to raise funds to buy our equipment and help pay for our running costs. Gina Henderson donated £5000 from the proceeds of a book called Recollections of Neilston. Gina spent the best part of thirty years collecting all of the data that she needed to begin writing the book, before starting out more than ten years ago on writing the book itself. Betty and Bobby Thomson of Uplawmoor chipped in their with proof reading and editing skills while Joyce Wallace of Neilston library lended her expert hand. This donation along with another £5,000 anonymous donation has allowed Neilston & Uplawmoor First Responders to commit to a mimimum five year lease with 'The Bank' Neilston Development Trust at 84 Main Street, Neilston as our local base station serving the local community. St John Scotland (Glasgow) have provided us with regular financial support initially donating £4000 allowing us to pay for our training needs and equipment. In June 2016 they have provided more than £3000 to purchae additional training equipment now that we have grown. This is in addition to their £2000 donation to assist with our set up operational costs. St John Scotland Glasgow Branch continue to provide us with on-going support and advice and have also released funds to help us with our base station. Arnold Clark Car & Van Rental have kindly provided us with two brand new 4x4 vehicles and we are very grateful as they are particularly useful during the winter months, keeping us safe during periods of poor weather.
