Waxholmsbolaget
We provide a maritime equivalent to the Stockholm public land transportation (SL) network. Our boats take children from their archipelago communities to school, collect fresh eggs from local farmers and make sure that Mr. Johansson on the little island of Harö receives his morning paper. We also transport milk and other goods to the archipelago grocery stores and deliver mail to the islanders. The service is operated using Waxholmsbolaget's circa 20 own archipelago boats and four Djurgården ferries. The boats are run by our contractors. In addition, we cooperate with with a number of private shipping companies who provide additional services during the summer season. Altogether we transport over 4 million passengers and 7,000 tons of goods each year. This makes Waxholmsbolaget one of the largest ferry companies in the Stockholm region. We provide a lifeline to the Stockholm archipelago and its harbours helping to keep the area accessible for everyone including summer guests, island residents and tourists from all over the world.
