Wellmade Motors and Development Corporation, founded in 1988 by its Chairman and President, Mr. Philip N. Tan, started as a trading company selling automotive and truck spare parts. wo years later, it expanded into the remanufacturing and overhauling of automotive and truck engines expertly undertaken by eight competent staff and certified mechanics. In 1995, its innovative precision engineering workshop was launched to the public. Starting only with twelve qualified staff and experienced machinist, it has grown to become one of the biggest and most modern workshop in the Philippines. t has always associated itself with the world's best precision machine manufacturers from United States, Italy, Switzerland, and Japan.Engine and metal component parts are either fabricated, machined, or remanufactured to the specification in compliance with the required close tolerances specified by international standards. Wellmade initiated a comprehensive competency-based human resource management system founded on the principles of job broad banding and competency definition. his is expected to result in improved links between human resources and Wellmade's strategic thrust, by creating and making employees more focused on the development of desired skills and competencies that will be able to comply with the requirements technologies and enhance customer satisfaction. Various government agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), Department of Labor & Employment (DOLE), Technical Education & Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Metal Industry Research & Development Center (MIRDC) has contributed much to the success of Wellmade through various training and assistance programs related to technology and human resource development. In view of the emphasis thathas been place both on human resources numbering more than ahundred employees and modern technologies, the very tangible results has already been achieved with the certification of being the first Filipino machine shop in year 2002 to be awarded ISO-9001:2000 as certified by TüV Rheinland Philippines. Wellmade has received numerous awards by the government, non-governmental, labor organizations, and management/industry sectors. n year 2003, it received a national award from TESDA as the most outstanding Dual Training System (DTS) training coordinator and another national award from DTI for the Best of the Business Establishments Consumer Welfare Desk for three consecutive years. Just recently in May 2005, Wellmade received the most prestigious award from the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) as a finalist in search for outstanding companies that implements industrial peace & harmony among its workers, productivity and Quality, Social Accountability, and strategic visioning/partnering for business and job survival as concurred by Dr. Blenk, director of the International Labor Organization assigned in the Philippines. Her Excellency, the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Madam Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, also awarded the most outstanding achievement for Quality and Productivity, the first SME in the Visayas and Mindanao recognized for having committed in maintaining the highest quality of machining and reconditioning works that meet both domestic and international standards, continuous adoption of programs and practices using scientific implementation and appropriate management tools using the culture of productivity and resulting to improved profits, material efficiency and reduction of waste. Wellmade has transformed its business from a micro-small company of 12 people in 1995 to almost 10 times its original size with three plants: 1.Northern Mandaue Main plant and corporate head office of Wellmade Group of companies with subsidiary company (Duratech Heavy Industries, Inc.) which focuses on engine and component parts remanufacturing through machining, fabrication, and fusion welding for motorcycle, transport, manufacturing industries, power plants, shipping, and 10-seater aircraft.
