Western Suburbs FC

Established in 1906 Western Suburbs was known as "Porirua Hospital" having their home ground situated in the Porirua Mental Hospital where the Olé Football Academy is now based. With the growth of the Western area it was decided in 1956 that the clubs name needed to be more representative of the region and the name of Western Suburbs was adopted. Needing a better home ground Wests played games at Kura Street in Titahi Bay before moving to Linden Park in 1959. Wests continued to grow and in 1962 the club finally settled with Kenepuru Drive as their home base where our club members still train today. During the 80's & 90's Wests have hosted amalgamations with Porirua Viard and Mana United of which the latter were based at Plimmerton Domain. Today Western Suburbs Football Club resides at Endeavour Park in Whitby and have developed a strong youth development programme in partnership with the Olé Football Academy. Wests continually strive for excellence and have won the Central League three times with 2017 being the most recent. Wests have also won the Chatham Cup three times and in 2018 with an average age of 19 lost the Chatham Cup final on penalties to Birkenhead United. Western Suburbs Football Club is the largest sports club in the Porirua basin and at the end of each season host our junior tournament where over 1000 young footballers get to enjoy a weekend with their team mates and families. As time passes more of the Wests players begin to feature on the world footballing stage. Players such as Ryan Thomas, Elliott Collier, Alex Rufer are showing that with hard work and dedication anything is possible.
