West Valley View

West Valley View covers and delivers to Avondale, Buckeye, Goodyear, Litchfield Park and Tolleson Arizona as well as unincorporated Maricopa County south of Northern Ave. and west of 83rd Ave. The View covers events that occur and are of interest to the residents of our community. It covers: local businesses, local government, local school districts, Estrella Community College, high school sports, and provides a forum for ideas in editorials and letters to the editor. It also provides a marketplace for local businesses to advertise their goods and services. The View also helps to provide a leadership role for such causes as the two local food banks by sponsoring a food drive and the plight of homeless students with a clothing drive. It also provides information about other entities that host donation drives for local social causes. The View is an independent, free, weekly newspaper. It was founded in 1986 by Elliott Freireich. In 2009 the newspaper moved into a 35,000 sq.ft. office/printing facility that houses a 12 unit newspaper web press which prints The View as well as other newspapers on a contract basis. The View is mostly carrier delivered with a distribution of 75,474 (August 31, 2016). The newspaper has won numerous state awards as well as international awards for editorial writing. The West Valley View replaced the original newspaper serving Avondale/Goodyear which was known as the Westside Enterprise and later the Westsider. The View is not related to those publications other than it covers some of the same communities and that Freireich's parents were owners of the Enterprise for a couple of years in the 60's. The five communities served by The View used to be farming communities, isolated from Phoenix by miles of 2 lane roads running through fields of cotton, produce and dairy farms. So much of the farmland has been replaced by subdivisions, that all the way from Buckeye to the east valley communities is filled with homes and shopping centers. The growth has included some upscale subdivisions including Verrado in northeast Buckeye and the Villages in Litchfield Park. It also has led to new retail and entertainment centers including the University of Phoenix stadium which is home to the NFL's Cardinals, Jobing.com Arena which is home to the NHL's Coyotes and Westgate shopping center which features bars, restaurants and movies. The West Valley View is a controlled circulation weekly. It is published every Wednesday, and distributed free-of-charge to homes and in high-traffic locations throughout Avondale, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Buckeye and Tolleson.
