Wild Women On Top

Wild Women On Top was founded in 2002 by Di Westaway, a former teacher, personal trainer, journalist and mum of three. As a beginner trekker and first time camper, Di inspired and trained a group of 15 baby boomer women to summit the highest freestanding mountain on the planet, the iconic volcano of Mt Kilimanjaro, 5,982m. She learned that extreme wilderness challenges require more physical fitness, mental and emotional tuffness, team work and toasty warm socks than she ever imagined. She also found that positive thinking, preparation, wet wipes and zip lock bags make trekking a whole lot more fun, and that the lessons from a mountain trek can be used to manage traumatic bad hair days and worse, in our day-to-day lives. She was inspired to help women prepare for trekking challenges, to teach them the lessons she learned the hard way. Plus, she loved getting out walking and talking with the school mums and dreaming of the adventures that would one day become a reality. In 2007, trainer and Generation X businesswoman, Lisa Marshall discovered and loved Di's vision and quickly jumped on board. She became a star coach and then Director of Wild Women On Top. Di and Lisa share a passion for women's fitness in nature. They created Trek Training,a time efficient outdoor adventure workout, using endurance walking and interval training on rough bush tracks, stairs, hills and soft sand, with weighted back packs, trekking poles, body weight and natural features to provide resistance, to prepare body and mind for challenging treks. They trained coaches with a system where every workout is a unique fun adventure experience in nature. They have inspired hundreds of women to transform their lives through setting and achieving extraordinary goals. Their teams have trekked iconic locations around the world including Everest Base Camp, Mt Kilimanjaro, Machu Picchu, Bhutan, Patagonia, GR 20 Corsica, Mt Fansipan, Mt Kinabalu, Mt Elbrus, and the highest mountain the Southern Hemisphere, Mt Aconcagua. Di and Lisa are also highly regarded endurance athletes. Di has climbed many of the world's high peaks, including Mt Cook and Mt Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Southern Hemisphere. Di's early goal of climbing the world's highest peaks evolved into climbing the world's most beautiful mountains, crystallised when she climbed and did the world's highest handstand on the sacred Himalayan jewel of Mt Ama Dablam, nearly 7,000m high, in 2012. Lisa's Mt Kilimanjaro & Mt Meru climbs, her 100km Trailwalker trek in 17 hours, as well as winning the Sydney Urban Max Adventure Race, are her personal highlights. In 2009, Di founded the Wild Women On Top Sydney Coastrek, 50-100km Team Challenge, proudly supporting The Fred Hollows Foundation. This event has inspired thousands of women and teams to get fit trekking the coast of Sydney and raised nearly $10 million for charity. Wild Women On Top girls love the feeling that comes from being fit for adventure. They value team work: T.E.A.M. "Together Everyone Achieves More".
