William Dickson Industries

1972 William Dickson Industries is founded by Bill Dickson. The business is born out of a childhood fascination with trucks and construction equipment stemming from helping his father with his own trucking business, Dickson Trucking. William Dickson Industries would go on to expand its operation throughout the Mid - Atlantic States and grow from a single GMC triaxle to a fleet of over 60 trucks. 1981 William Dickson Industries is incorporated. Bill Dickson shifts his focus from full time driving to management of the growing business. A shop and yard are acquired in Latrobe, PA to house the emerging fleet. 1986 Mechanic Mike Knurowski joins in November. As of today, Mike is still our lead mechanic, working with the company, maintaining the fleet and outfitting new equipment. 1988 Driver Paul Rubino joins in January. Over two million miles later 'dragon' is still trucking for wdi, hauling in his 2013 western star glider. 1992 As the demand for additional hauling arises, Dickson Bulk Services is established to transport loads further distances and accommodate specialty needs. Originally hauling predominantly hazardous materials, the company has since widened its focus with various dump trailers, flat beds and pneumatic dry bulk tankers. 1993 William "Judd" Dunbar joins in July, he is currently lead dispatch and still trucking for WDI. 2000 The companies relocate from Latrobe, PA, to a 30 acre plot of land at 113 Lee Valley Road in Derry,PA. A larger shop and more land are acquired to accommodate the expanding fleet and Dickson Bulk Services. 2003 William Dickson Industries begins selling and distributing landscaping materials, including mulch, decorative stone, masonry sand, salt, coal, driveway gravel, and mushroom compost. See a list of our Products/Bulk Services. 2004 Bill Dickson collaborates with Caterpillar, Kenworth and Benson to develop a new way of heating dump bodies during the winter months. 2009 WDI begins building glider kits. Recycling Caterpillar engines, components and Fuller transmissions from older equipment into newer, safer equipment. 2010 A new office is built to accommodate the growing administrative staff. Following the two generations before him, Bill's youngest son Brad earns his cdl and begins working for WDI. 2011 Bill's daughter Jennifer joins the company and a safety committee is established to educate employees and reinforce the importance of a safe work environment. 2012 A new WDI 2012 Peterbilt is used by Cummins Inc. for an experimental test engine. the WDI truck is selected due to the nature of their work and high maintenance standards. The test engine is being used for research to lower emissions while obtaining higher fuel mileage. 2015 Today William Dickson Industries and Dickson Bulk Services employ over 60 personnel, including qualified, safety-conscious drivers and well-trained mechanics with a strong knowledge of heavy equipment and emerging technology. With an emphasis on great customer services and reasonable prices, the Dickson companies take pride in serving the local community and being one of the leading carriers in the industry. As of today: "Wild Bill" Dickson maintains a current cdl and can still occasionally be seen trucking in southwestern Pennsylvania.
