Working in Tandem

Working in Tandem

Working in Tandem is a student-led voluntary organisation which supports an educational project in Meserani, Tanzania. WiT was founded in 2005 by students from The University of Nottingham who travelled to Tanzania and built a school. Since this time, our organisation has raised many thousands of pounds to support this project and each year a number of our volunteers visit Tanzania to teach and work at the school. Kituo Cha Elimu Meserani, (KCEM) is the centre which we built and continually support and it provides free education for the local Maasai community. With WiT's support the centre now has its own kindergarten, library, computer room, English & French Classroom, Tailoring workshop and playground. In recent years, we have supported the introduction of two outreach centres which both provide an educational opportunity for adults and children in rural areas. In the last 12 months, working in Tandem has hosted a number of fundraising events and activities. On a smaller level, we hold regular cake sales and host the weekly pub quiz at Mooch which provide a reliable income for WiT. Also, our big events have included Open Mic Nights and a weekend climbing the Yorkshire Three Peaks and are always very popular. It is important to note that every penny we raise goes straight to the school as we have no administration costs.
