How to Arrange Furniture in a Bedroom — for Maximum Style and Comfort When it comes to modern bedroom layouts, placement is everything. The latest trend, and also the one that offers the most amount of flow, is to arrange all the pieces — the bed, nightstand, dresser, and vanity — in a way that all the furniture pieces create an attractive presentation when viewed from each angle in the room. This gives it all a museum-like quality, yet it should also be comfortable. In this article, we’re going to cover several major tips, including the oft-asked question of “Where should a bed be placed in a bedroom?” So, get ready to totally rethink how you go about arranging the various pieces in your bedroom — and that all starts with the bed. The Bed: It’s What it a Bedroom, Right? Bed placement is the first thing you’ll want to consider when rearranging your bedroom (or arranging it for the first time). The bed is the single largest piece of furniture within a bedroom. Therefore, it holds both visual weights and it takes up quite a bit of floor space. Since most modern bedrooms have an off-centre point of entry, it should be fairly easy to arrange the dresser, headboard, and bed in a way that they all greet you as you walk into the room. The nightstand is so ubiquitous in modern bedrooms that ditching it completely and going with some kind of nightstand alternative can make a bold design statement. A well-placed stack of books or even a beautifully finished tree core can give your room a country, rustic charm. But, there is something to be said about an elegant nightstand that is matched with a quality bedroom set. With our iPads, smartphones, books, and other items that have become modern essentials, a bedside light takes up more nightstand real estate than it did in the past. Tune-In to Textures Most of us are great at matching colours and incorporating items that set a general design theme, but it is in the textures of bedroom furniture where we often falter. Whether it’s the raised beading on a wooden bed frame, or the slats on wooden blinds, the various textures in a room create a subtle, but striking symphony of style. Add a Loveseat or Storage Trunk If you have a bedroom set picked out, you may want to consider adding a loveseat or storage trunk to the foot of the bed (if space allows). A well-placed loveseat can give the room a greater sense of purpose, making it not only a room to sleep in but also a space to lounge and relax. You can find a storage trunk that either matches your bed set, or serves as a stylistic companion.
