to improve and promote the profession of landscape architecture in Nunavut in a manner that recognizes and reflects its unique cultural and natural environments; to enhance the knowledge, education, and skill in the art and science of landscape architecture throughout Nunavut by fostering public, government, and industry interests in landscape architecture;and to provide a "voice" for Nunavut's landscapes. Landscape Architecture in Nunavut is committed to the creative and responsible planning and design of our Arctic landscapes, Inuit cultural sites , and historic places. The sustainable use, development, conservation and management of our Arctic environment is our goal. Our profession respects Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (Inuit Traditional Knowledge), and brings together traditional knowledge, scientific knowledge, and design. We work within the context of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement. We are concerned with design and management and respect for our wildlife, wildlife habitat, Inuit cultural landscapes, and cultural resources; recognition of social and economic factors that affect Nunavut; recognition of the connection between Inuit and the landscape as an integral element of cultural identity; and safe and sustainable development in generating creative solutions for our communities, towns and cities and the natural environment of our lands, mountains, rivers and coastlines.
