Abengoa responds in Chile to the needs of the energy and water sectors of this country Abengoa met with ministers, businessmen, professionals and academics, of national and international levels in Chile, during the Elecgas conference, which is the main energy conference in Chile, taking place on the 13th of May in Santiago Chile. This meeting was pivotal since the current Chilean government is investing in ways to strengthen and renew their energy infrastructure, encouraging investments by foreign companies. In addition, Abengoa also participated in Water in Mining, an international convention dedicated to water management in the mining sector, which took place in Viña del Mar from May 28th to 30th. Sponsored by the Sustainable Minerals Institute at the University of Queensland and the company Gecamin, this event focused on sustainable water management throughout the mining process. Water in Mining had delegates from 20 countries and a program of 65 technical conferences under the mantra "Updating the vision of water for mining. On behalf of Abengoa, Rafael González, director of the Center of Competence for Water and Environment, gave a presentation on improving water infrastructure for mining projects. He presented as a case study the aqueduct Tierra Amarilla project that Abengoa is currently developing in Chile, which includes the construction of 116 km of pipes of desalinated water that is to supply mining companies. Abengoa has among its references in Chile, a power plant with 370 MW of power, as well as the first parabolic trough solar thermal plant in the Atacama Desert, one of the places with the highest solar radiation in the world, which is intregrated in a copper mine. Also during the month of June, Abengoa was awarded its first desalination project in Chile, which will be built for the AES Gener Angamos plant with a capacity of 4,800 m3 per day expandable to 19,200 in a second phase. These projects are representative of Abengoa's commitment to providing sustainable energy and water solutions.
