A Better Way
A Better Way (ABW) was founded in 1996 primarily as a Foster Family Program. In order to provide comprehensive services to its children and families, adoption and behavioral health services were added a few years later. During the past 17+ years, ABW has provided foster care services to more than 2,000 children and has finalized 300 adoptions. It is one of the few organizations in Alameda County and San Francisco County with expertise in assessing and serving children 0-5 in the pre- or post-adoption and reunification services. ABW has provided behavioral health services to over 2,000 children in these counties. All services focus on helping families achieve permanency for the children, either through reunification, adoption, or stabilization of the current placement. Its mission is to empower children and families to develop the insights, life skills, and permanent relationships that promote the social, emotional, educational and economic well-being.
