Access Wireless is a Lifeline Assistance program designed to ensure that quality telecommunications services are available to low-income customers at reasonable and affordable rates. he program was first introduced in 1984 during the Reagan administration. Access Wireless provides income-eligible customers with a free cell phone and a monthly allotment of airtime for one year. The cell phone offers in-demand features such as voicemail, domestic long distance, text messaging, call waiting, caller ID and 911 emergency access. Who is eligible to receive Access Wireless phone? Individuals may qualify for Lifeline service if they participate in a public assistance programs such as Food Stamps, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), National Free School Lunch, Federal Housing/Section 8 Assistance, or if they do not receive any of these public assistance programs, they may also qualify based on total household gross monthly income. If you are applying based on income eligibility, you will need to provide a copy of last year's State or Federal income tax return or 3 consecutive months' worth of your most current pay stubs, Social Security benefits statement, Veterans Administration benefits statement, Retirement/Pension benefits statement, divorce decree or child support document, or Unemployment/Workers Compensation benefits statement. What's included with my Access Wireless phone service? Access Mobile offers eligible customers a free cell phone and 250 monthly minutes or texts for one year. There are no bills, long-term contracts, activation fees, or surcharges for Access Wireless customers. Upon verification, Access Wireless users may renew their service on an annual basis. Access Wireless is currently available in the following states: Illinois, Arkansas, West Virginia, Utah, Nevada, Maryland, Louisiana, Indiana, Missouri, South Carolina, Ohio, Kentucky, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, North Carolina, New York, Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut, Florida, Alabama, New Hampshire, Kansas, Rhode Island and Washington.
