Retina Institute of California was founded on the premise of developing a new model of patient care and clinical excellence. The two founders envisioned an institute that would offer a higher standard of patient care not previously available. Our goal is to combine the academic freedom and creativity afforded standard university-based practices with the efficiency and patient-centered focus of a private practice. Simply stated, our mission is to promote excellence in the care of diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula. Our physicians are deeply committed to every aspect of patient care. We strive to offer a friendly and compassionate environment in which you and your family will feel comfortable. Each patient is treated as an individual and given the time, respect, and courtesy that he/she deserves. We have the latest modern equipment to help accurately and efficiently diagnose your retinal condition. We also have available all of the most current treatments, including many only available through research protocols. We offer all currently accepted medical and surgical options available in the field. Our doctors are committed to contributing to their field and advancing the profession through participation in research trials, instrument design, national and international lectures, publications, and teaching seminars. We constantly strive to improve our knowledge, skills, and abilities in order to take the best possible care of our patients. Education is also of paramount importance at the Retina Institute of California. The physicians assure that they are always at the cutting edge of treatment through participation in educational activities, constant evaluation of outcomes, and strict quality control measures. Dr. Chang has had the privilege of training over 150 ophthalmologists and retina specialists, and has won numerous teaching awards in the process. He has experience teaching at many of the leading academic eye centers in North America.
