AD60
If you don't know by now, AD60 is a 100% online enterprise. As a company that hires tech savvy staff, it would be pretty bad, if we then restricted them from using the very business and lifestyle tools/sites that qualified them as employees in the first place. What we instead try to do is channel that "need" to ensure that the production or operational business plans are clear and that deliverablies must be achieved on schedule. One area that we are however developing, and anyone who is considering starting their own company or is feeling the pain of cyberslacking should consider, is an internet code of conduct. This will ensure that the staff are aware of what would be deemed unacceptable use of your systems. Certainly any illegal activity, but also awareness of the need to protect the companies systems and data for both privacy and security. This code of conduct would hold staff accountable if systems received viruses and/or trojan programs that could compromise data. AD60 employs both veterans and recent college graduates. In both cases we do see our employees using facebook or aim, with these programs running in the background during the day. Is this different then employees taking or making personal calls during work hours or taking extended breaks or lunches in the pre-internet days? As then, don't abuse the flexibility we provide, get the job done on time and we believe the trade off is greater output and employee productivity then if we restricted access to the "new technologies" and communication streams.
