Aftab Committee

The Aftab Committee is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving and advancing the interests of the Iranian-American community. Our core belief is that an informed and engaged Iranian-American community can help change and improve not only the lives of its own community members, but also the lives of all Americans. We believe that Iranian-Americans can contribute even more than they currently are to the welfare and benefit of the broader community, and for even greater mutual gains for both themselves and others. The Aftab Committee was formed with purpose of helping Iranian-Americans better understand the rights, privileges, and protections afforded to them by American law, and provide them the knowledge and tools needed to participate and thrive here in the United States of America. The Iranian-American community is a budding and diverse one. Here at Aftab, we strive to promote an understanding, accepting and inclusive attitude towards community service and engagement, as well as to encourage any and all members play active roles. We strongly believe that discrimination, bigotry, and anti Iranian-American sentiment are unacceptable and have no place in our society, neither now, nor in the future. We advocate that Iranian-Americans take full advantage of the services and institutions here in the United States of America, and we believe the best way to protect the interest of Iranian-Americans is to have a participating and engaged citizenship. We strive to bridge resources, services, and expertise with Iranian-Americans facing a variety of legal or social issues. The Aftab Committee does not lobby, nor does it engage in policy work. The Aftab Committee aims to bring experts in the medical and social services; arts, business, government and legal fields- together with Iranian-Americans. We aim to be a resource for any and all seeking information or dialogue about Iranian-Americans. We will serve the community as a hub for gathering data and information on a variety of aspects of day-to-day life here in the United States. One of our functions is making information accessible to non-native English speakers, and presenting that information in a culturally sensitive and relevant manner.
