Agapé Plastics
Agapé was founded in 1973 by Tom Alt. We incorporated in 1975 and by the late 1970's, Agapé was providing injection-moldings to Steelcase and American Seating. We broke into the automotive business in 1983 with a two-bolt stud plate that was developed with GM's Oldsmobile Division. The two bolt stud plate was patented and became the springboard for a series of insert molded fasteners that remain the core of our insert molding business. Agapé was located in these early days in a very small facility, about 5000 square feet. The building that housed our molding shop was originally the stable for a brewery and the building next door that housed our tool shop was the cork-lined icehouse where the kegs were kept. We soon outgrew this facility. We had no room between machines and almost nowhere to store raw materials and finished goods, and we had no loading dock. By early 1986 our volume of business had increased to such an extent that we could not hold all of our product we produced. We rented warehouse space that helped us to accommodate the 15-20 shipments we made a month. In the summer of 1986, Tom and Cindi Alt purchased a 20,000 square foot facility on Alpine Avenue where we would spend the next 12 years. In 1987 we purchased an adjacent restaurant and built a 7000 square foot addition to house our new paint line we used to paint interior parts for Prince Corporation. In 1991 we won a contract to provide large multi-insert fasteners to Saturn. Throughout the 90's we continued to grow within the automotive industry. Utilizing our growing expertise in Injection Insert Molding and our years of development work, we began to do molding work for Paulstra, Nascote, GM, Ford, and Chrysler. In 1995 we received ISO registration, in 1997 QS 9000 and in 2003 TS 16949 registration. We moved into our current facility in 1999. Our new plant has 54,000 sq feet of manufacturing and has allowed us to continue to grow as our customer base has demanded. Today we produce all different types of plastic molded parts. From insert molded shift levers that go onto Nexteer columns to Air bag retainers that go into TRW steering wheels. Most importantly, our growth has been possible because of the support of our suppliers, customers, employees and the visions of Tom and Cindi Alt. Without everyone, our past and future success would not be possible.
