NEXTHEALTH is the manufacturer and marketer of a patient transfer and mobility system, the AgileLife System. The Company, which is privately owned, was organized in January 2009 to develop and market the PTS which is patented, FDA registered, and has been successfully used in both institutional and home care settings. The core product is an integration of several assistive devices that automates the transfer of immobile individuals to and from a hospital bed and wheelchair without any need to lift the patient. This automated process eliminates significant care giver and patient cost while improving outcomes for all constituents in the long term care continuum. In the US, there are 1.65 million chronically disabled people who are unable to independently transfer from a bed to a chair or a toilet. They want to stay at home. They want to age in place. According to the most recent American Nurses Association survey and confirmed by a recent study by the Connecticut Regional Institute for the 21st Century, the most significant issues in connection with providing long term care in the home are: Caregiver cost when adequate care cannot be given by a family member Remedial medical cost associated with bedsores resulting from lack of mobility Frequency and cost of patient injury resulting from lifting and transfer Frequency and cost of musculoskeletal injury to caregivers resulting from patient lifting Loss of quality of life and independence when outside parties are required to reside in the home Lack of adequate funding to pay for in home care. The AgileLife System provides a solution for all of these issues. In the institutional setting, the AgileLife System addresses the significant workplace injury issues identified by OSHA, AARP and the American Nurses Association, resulting in the rising tide of "safe patient lifting" policy. The PTS is the only transfer device that is a truly "no-lift" device. The Company is dedicated to providing superior, innovative products to maximize quality of life for the disabled, their caregivers, and loved ones.
