Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
Founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC in 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by and for African American college-trained women. As society embraces new and unforeseen challenges, the members of this prestigious organization are committed to developing leaders, expanding Alpha Kappa Alpha's economic achievements, and ensuring that the Sorority is fully engaged in achieving its possible goals through: E-economics, S-sisterhood and P-partnerships. The members of the Beta Psi Omega chapter in Austin, Texas have accepted this challenge, and continue to work to make a positive and significant impact to the Austin community through our programs of service and community partnerships. Our local chapter was chartered on May 17, 1938. Historically, the members of our chapter have been deeply rooted in the foundation of the Austin community in the fields of education, civil and social rights, and economic development. The current membership truly represents the heart of the black community, and we proudly reflect some of Austin's most elegant, educated, and empowered women. With a spirit of service and sisterhood, we will continue to dedicate ourselves to improving the economic and social status of our community, and seek new and innovative opportunities to grow and give more! We encourage members who are relocating to Austin to come and experience the spirit of our phenomenal chapter, and we encourage the community to support us as we attempt to continue our commitment to servant leadership.
