AKM

AKM Corporation was founded in the year 1990. It began its operation repairing internal combustion engines and in the process of air conditioning systems ("mini splits") assembly. AKM Sheet MetalDivision was created from the necessity to fabricate the metal cabinets for the air conditioning units and the need to find a company in Puerto Rico that could integrate the design and manufacturing process required for our needs. In the year 1997, AKM invests in its first "turret punch press", "sheer" and "press break" with the purpose of manufacturing of our own products. From there various companies have requested our services in the design and fabrication of their sheet metal parts to such a degree, that we had to purchase, by the year 2000, the first and only "laser combination punch" with tower storage facilities of 48,000 pounds in Puerto Rico. In 2002, AKM would acquire the first laser in Puerto Rico with the capacity or cutting up to halve inch stainless steel and with a fully automated "lights out operation" storage tower of 48,000 pounds, thus staying up to date in technology and ahead of its competitors. At the present the company has branched out to establish an electrical division where we fabricate switching units (URD-11, URD-11a), transclosures, metering cabinets, meter banks, electrical cross arms, enclosures, junction boxes, switchboards, switchgears, telephone terminal cabinets (TTC), cable television cabinets (CTV), distribution panels, power centers, low interrupted switch for vault's (URD-42), control box cabinets and meter bases. AKM uses one of the most modern systems for sheet metal processing to date like "lasers" with one inch cutting capacity in "mild steel" (Amada Gemini), "high velocity turret punch press" (Amada Vipros King), combination laser and turret punch press (Amada Apelio), all with CNC cutting tolerances of plus/minus 5 thousands of an inch. For bending process we use press breaks with CNC, 7 axis controls and automated crowning features (for long part bends) like Amada NT's breaks and Amada Astro for automated robotic bending of long productions to minimize costs of parts for customers. Other production machines include CNC Pem insertion machines used with automated feeders (Hager and PEM), powder coating finishing infrared oven's, wet and dry deburring machines (Steelmaster), twin belt surface grinders (Kuhlmeyer), spot welding machines (Amada and Miller), heliarc (Lincoln), MIG and TIG welding.
