Alternative does not mean there is any form of divination or spiritualistic practices involved or that people who provide such services are delusional quacks (although some do use those techniques); it simply means that the practices are different from the usual or conventional as regards to Modern Western Medicine. Denise Gonzalez has had most of her training in the Modern Western Medical Health Field as a Surgical Technologist (ST) at the age of 18, then becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), and further continuing her education as a Registered Nurse (R.N.). She takes pride in her accomplishments in the Field of Modern Western Medicine and she brings with her all of her knowledge and experience in her many years of practice as it applies to the Alternative Health Field. Many involved in the Alternative Health Field may not have training in Modern Western Medicine; however, this is what sets Denise Gonzalez and Alternatives for Self Healing apart from many others in the Alternative Health Field. Alternatives for Self Healing does not oppose Modern Western Medicine in any way. In fact, Alternatives for Self Healing works closely with Modern Western Medicine to promote, educate, and empower others to create positive personal change, self-healing, and general well-being. Denise Gonzalez became involved in the Alternative Health Field due to personal health issues of her own and saw the immense benefit of it on her life and decided to learn and then share it with others who may feel as hopeless as she once felt. Due to this, she has been trained in Alternative Cognitive Re-Education Therapy, Certified in the ARÖMATouch Technique , Healing Touch and Reiki . (Healing Touch is endorsed by the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) and the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB)).
