For years, the printing industry has been using petroleum-based inks. As public environmental awareness increased, studies found that petroleum-based inks had detrimental effects to the environment due to their non-renewable nature and their high emission rates of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) into the atmosphere. Fortunately, a more environmentally friendly printing option is available: vegetable-based ink! Ink Systems Inc. supplies us with 100% vegetable-based ink, which is less harmful to the environment but still packs the same quality and color as traditional petroleum-based ink. Not only is vegetable-based ink better for the environment because it comes from sustainable resources, but also because it emits extremely low levels of VOCs into the atmosphere during manufacturing and printing. And, paper printed with vegetable-based inks is easier to recycle! It's important for us to be mindful about how our business affects the world around us.
