The Amherst Police Department is a professional organization, whose members pride themselves in delivering services with the highest levels of professionalism, integrity and respect at all times. More than ever, we are members of the community; neighbors, coaches, mentors, and parents, wanting to make a difference. We are proud to lead and participate in programs and projects such as DARE, Good Morning Amherst, school resource officers, motorcycle patrols, bicycle patrols, vacant house checks, child safety seat checks, Project Safeguard, and Students Against Destructive Decisions. The police department has always adhered to the philosophy that dedication to patrol is the best crime prevention and accident prevention available. A reputation of a firm but fair approach to law enforcement is invaluable in deterring would be law breakers and unsafe drivers. However, we are also mindful that there is always room for improvement, better and more innovative ways to get the job done so we encourage comments and feedback from all of you.
