Assistance Dogs Australia

Assistance Dogs Australia is a national charity that trains Labradors and Golden Retrievers to help people with disabilities. These dogs take two years to train at a cost of over $27,000 each and are then given free of charge to people in need. Assistance Dogs open the door to freedom and independence for their owners, helping with everyday tasks like opening and closing doors, retrieving dropped objects, removing items of clothing and alert barking in emergencies. Their wagging tail and unconditional love also helps relieves social isolation, providing physical and emotional support for the the next 8-10 years of their working life. Assistance Dogs Australia has placed over 190 trained dogs across Australia. We have up to 30 pups in training at any one time. We rely solely on the generosity of individuals and corporates to raise funds to support our work in the community. There are over 100 people currently waiting for one of our Assistance Dog's and it can take up to two years until they are matched with the right Super Puppy. During Dogtober we want to raise money to train more super pups so we can dramatically change the lives of these people in need.
