The battle for freedom of scientific research is not in favor of researchers and their laboratories. It is not just about the millions of sick people who may one day be cured thanks to the advancement... of scientific knowledge. The campaign for the freedom of research is a battle for freedom. It concerns the secular state and freedom of thought. It is the same fight led at his time by Galileo Galilei, or nowadays against those who still prohibit research that represents the hope of cure for millions of patients, or against those who would expel Darwin from school curricula. The defense of freedom of research is the continuation of the battle for civil rights and secularism, in defense of individual autonomy and against attempts to impose through the laws of a state, a state moral or the dogmas of a religious confession.
