The Azure Mountain Friends

The Azure Mountain Friends are embarking upon a year of fundraising, to celebrate the Centennial of the Fire Tower. It was erected on July 29, 1918 and we plan to celebrate on July 29, 2018 . So MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Help us start from the ground and 'climb and color the tower' until we reach the top and can turn our American flag red, white and blue, meeting our goal of $35,000! We have new CENTENNIAL PATCHES too! The funds raised will help the Azure Mountain Friends continue the programs they have been doing since 2002: PROTECT THE TRAIL & SUMMIT ENVIRONMENT CONTINUE TO FUND OUR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM HAVE VOLUNTEER "SUMMIT STEWARDS" ON THE MOUNTAIN DO ROUTINE TOWER & TRAIL MAINTENANCE CELEBRATE THE HISTORY & EDUCATE THE PUBLIC, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN azure mountain us drone Azure Mountain Friends is a 501 (c) 3 not for profit organization and your donation may be used as a charitable contribution. Located at the western edge of Franklin County, in the town of Waverly, near the hamlet of Santa Clara, the Azure Mountain fire tower has been standing guard over the northern Adirondacks since 1918. This web site will bring you the history of the mountain and the story of how the Azure Mountain Friends organized in late 2001 and, with the help of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Americorps, saved the tower from removal. Our thanks to the generous contributions of all those who love the mountain, and all the hours donated by our many volunteers. Come visit Azure Mountain, climb the tower, and enjoy the wonderful views. Check the Maps page if you need directions. See our Trail Register. Drone Photo courtesy of Jon Thies, of US Drone.
