BeaconPMG is the STM division of PreMedia Global, Inc. We are known for our expertise in applying new computer technologies and workflow approaches to the production process. We have earned a reputation for helping our clients achieve their goals. Below are descriptions of a few of our innovations: In 1981, we purchased one of the first available WYSIWYG composition systems (developed by Bedford Computer Corporation) and worked with Bedford as co-developer of the first WYSIWYG math editor. This provided us with superior insight into the mechanics of setting mathematics. In 1992, we became one of the first firms to supply SGML-based copyediting and composition services to journal publishers (starting with the IEEE). This provided us with the knowledge necessary to create DTDs and automatically compose pages from a tagged content stream. In 2001, we developed one of the world's first fully integrated XML-based copyediting and composition processes for producing journals (utilizing MathML and 3B2). This gave us the level of automation necessary to provide our clients with dramatic reductions in turnaround time and cost. In 2002, we engineered a process that enables journal and book copy editors to work from remote locations (using our equipment and working off our server). This gave us the ability to assemble a large team of skilled STM copy editors and provide our clients with copyediting services of the highest quality. In 2006, we developed a seamless workflow to integrate India-based art and composition resources into our own highly automated processes. This provided us with far greater capacity and the ability to offer our clients some of the most competitive prices in the industry.
