The Orphanage Foundation

?Beyond the Orphanage is a registered charity with offices in Torquay, Australia and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and a team of professional support staff in both countries. We place at-risk orphans in Ethiopia with families and guide them to become self-reliant adults within their own communities. We take children of any race, colour or gender, and we're strictly non-profit and non-denominational. With a team of international experts on child welfare, we support these children using a world-leading model for orphan support. This finds a community-based foster family for each child, and gives them education, food, clothing, and emotional support until they are self-sufficient. Over 1,000 orphans have taken part in our programs so far, with the oldest ones now setting out as strong independent young adults. On the ground, we have a small, skilled team in Addis Ababa and a range of education facilities, a drop-in centre, emergency accommodation and counselling support. The Addis Ababa team works with local government, local orphanages and community organisations across Ethiopia to select the children who most need our care. And it's not only the kids who gain. We support foster families and guardians and give employment for those orphans too old to fit into our development programs. More than 2,000 community members have also benefitted from our education programs, counselling services, advice and support. We have minimal operating costs for these programs, along with strict standards for governance and financial transparency. Our dedicated board of lawyers, accountants and business experts all give their services free of charge. We know the Beyond the Orphanage model works - our challenge is to reach more of the children who need us.
