Billy Penn is an independent media organization that strives to provide just the right mix of serious and lighthearted news about Philadelphia - the greatest city in the world. Launched in Oct. 2014 by veterans of newsrooms at the Washington Post, Digital First Media, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Patriot-News, Tribune Co. and WHYY's Newsworks, our site publishes original local stories every day. We also share the best of everything else out there - interesting articles, funny tweets, gorgeous Instagrams, links about worthy projects and happenings around the region. Our goal is to connect and give voice to Philly's diverse communities by highlighting wins, pointing out shortcomings, and asking questions about topics that deserve to be addressed. We also host events designed to inform, entertain and delight Philadelphians, and help them link up with peers, mentors and people with new perspectives in neighborhoods across the city.
