Blot Design is aimed at helping small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) companies in Edinburgh and the Scottish Central Belt take a business-based advantage of web technology. Our idea was to merge creative, technical and marketing skills together to provide a web development service that could deliver business benefits that were more than just 'pretty pictures'. Blot Design is run by Managing Director, Iain Wilson : Iain Wilson "I've been in the IT business all my working life, in technical, creative and marketing jobs (apart from six months as a welder's labourer on the gas pipeline), and with companies like McDonnell Douglas, Cisco and Agilent. But the best fun has been since we formed Blot Design in 2003. Personally, I built my first website almost 20 years ago. My company loved it, and our US salesforce thought it put them right at the cutting edge in our industry. If you saw it today though, you'd say it was the worst thing you'd ever seen! That's a key aspect of the web industry; it changes very quickly. To survive online, you must adapt to change. Can't stay still. These days, the technology has improved so much that web development is on a completely different level. We're now producing layouts and sophisticated applications that just couldn't have been imagined when we first started. Since 2003 we've had a few successes along the way. I've always been genuinely interested in our clients' businesses and love to see them doing well. Creatively, it's always nice to look at a job and be happy with the way it looks and operates, but some of my favourite stories are where we can measure how we made or saved our clients way more than the cost of our fee.
